Basic upholstery – half day

Basic upholstery – half day

Half-day 3-hour class for beginners.

Learn to strip, pad, and cover a dining chair seat. Unlike the day class, we do not repair broken chairs in this one. This class is designed to teach you how to:

  • Recover your chair seat
  • To replace the foam, wadding and fabric

and you re-upholster your own seat. If you do not have a chair, David has a chair seat you can work on.

If you have a chair that does not have a slip seat e.g. a chair with a non-removable seat that has webbing and is upholstered to the frame of the chair then please book the Full Day Chair Restoration class.

Beginner’s Upholstery class

  • Learn how to strip, pad, and cover.
  • Learn how to use upholstery tools and materials.

What is the difference between this and the full-day class?  With the full-day class, you should bring your own dining chair so you can get practical experience in repairing chairs. David will help each student individually and demonstrate to the class the correct techniques and skills that need to be employed for the restoration of broken and damaged chairs. Every student learns multiple techniques as most chairs brought in on the day are different.

What do we need to bring?

  • YOU SHOULD BRING A CHAIR OR JUST THE SLIP SEAT
  • FABRIC – HALF A SQUARE METRE FOR A STANDARD SIZE DINING CHAIR
  • FOAM 450 X 450 IN SIZE EITHER 25MM OR 50MM THICK DEPENDING ON YOUR CHOICE
  • CALICO, DACRON, COTTON WADDING OR POLYESTER LINING TO COVER THE FOAM
  • NEW WEBBING (IF THE SLIP IS WEBBED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED)

WE STOCK THE ABOVE ITEMS (APART FROM THE FABRIC WHICH WILL BE YOUR CHOICE) THEY CAN BE PURCHASED ON THE DAY IF YOU DON’T HAVE YOUR OWN. (Please bring cash as we do not take cards but a bank transfer is OK)
