INTERMEDIATE LEVEL PROJECT CLASS – Make an dining chair, day course

DAY CLASS INTERMEDIATE

This is a joinery class focusing on the Mortise and Tenon joint. A very traditional method for creating a chair, the M&T joint is one that can be used in many of your home projects so understanding it will be a great asset to building future projects. Whether it’s beds, chairs, doors, cabinets or anything that requires load-bearing strength, the number of glue surfaces and the interlocking nature of the M&T joint will provide a lifetime of quality.

The skills covered in the project class will include marking out techniques and using a variety of power tools to cut and machine the material to the required dimensions. The style of the chair is a slip-seat dining chair but we do not upholster the seat in this class. This can be done at home at your leisure or we have a seat upholstery class to which you can bring the base and learn basic upholstery on your seat.

Hardwood is used in the creation of this dining-style chair.

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN USING POWER TOOLS.

  • Learn marking out techniques
  • Use the Mitre Saw
  • Router Table and jigs
  • Joinery techniques
  • Clamps
  • Sanding station
  • Table saw
  • Bandsaw

General information for your visit.

Please wear clothes suitable for dusty work, sensible shoes, and your own lunch. There is a local shop nearby if you wish to buy lunch or you can bring a packed lunch with you. Tea and coffee is provided at lunch.

If you have some of your own tools and would like to learn how to use them properly, then you are welcome to bring them and use them on the course. We have a fully equipped workshop so there is no need to bring anything, but some students like to bring their own.

I've been on two courses run by David now and both have been excellent. His knowledge is incredible. He's a talented teacher with a good sense of humour. I would definitely recommend.
